Last November the 1st World Cariñena Competition was held, promoted by the Cariñena D.O. In this contest, the D.O. seeks to promote the quality and possibilities of this grape variety.
Cariñena, as its name indicates, comes from the town of Cariñena, in the province of Aragón. And you may ask, how is it that Celler Josep Vicens produces this wine? Well, it all goes back 80 years, when grandfather Sisco opted for this variety.
It is therefore an honour that, in this first edition, Celler Josep Vicens has been awarded a Gold Medal for the wine Mon Iaio Sisco Homenatge. A 100% Carignan wine, an emotional and intense wine, where harmony is absolute.
It is a wine fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature and aged for 15 months in barrels. A wine that surprises us on the nose with a first impact of chocolate, blueberries, fine notes of marzipan and roasted coffee.
We can only be grateful for the recognition received by this wine from the D.O Carinyena. We are very proud of our origins and it is a privilege that the work of our ancestors is so rewarding.
